Clover’s Cardboard Castle

Rain tapped the windows all morning, so Clover declared the long delivery box a castle. A doorway appeared with a little careful cutting, and a tea towel became the grandest flag in the kingdom.

Clover patrolled the walls, defended the drawbridge from a cork on a string, and held court for two stuffed bears. The castle leaned a little whenever she jumped onto its roof, but every good fortress has a few dramatic architectural choices.

When the sun returned, Clover carried her cork outside but left the castle by the window. Rainy days would come again, and a wise queen keeps her favorite kingdom ready.
