Waffle and the Windy Washline

Waffle watches sheets billow on a windy washday and invents a new game.

Clean sheets lifted on the washline like white sails. Waffle crouched in the grass, amazed that ordinary laundry could become a row of enormous breathing creatures.

He chased their shadows but kept a respectful distance from the snapping corners. When one sheet dipped low, Waffle darted beneath it and emerged on the other side with the triumphant bounce of an explorer crossing a waterfall.

That evening the sheets returned as warm bedding. Waffle recognized the smell of wind and grass, circled the soft pile, and fell asleep inside the calm version of his afternoon adventure.
