Echo in the Empty Greenhouse

Echo slipped into the greenhouse behind the gardener and found a world made of glass and green shadows. Tomato vines climbed toward the ceiling, and raindrops drummed softly overhead.

She offered one experimental meow. The greenhouse returned a smaller meow from every pane. Echo searched beneath pots and behind watering cans for the invisible kitten, calling again whenever the trail seemed cold.

At last she sat among the basil and listened. The mystery kitten always spoke when she did and rested when she rested. Echo decided this was excellent company and visited often, bringing a different story for the glass walls each afternoon.
