Ziggy and the Zinnia Maze

By late summer, the zinnias stood taller than Ziggy. Their stems made green corridors and their flowers floated overhead in orange, pink, and red circles.

Ziggy entered the maze behind a grasshopper and quickly forgot the chase. Every turn offered a new smell, a patch of cool earth, or a ladybird climbing a leaf with serious purpose.

He emerged with pollen on his nose just as the watering can arrived. From the dry porch, Ziggy watched the maze sparkle, already certain that tomorrow its paths would lead somewhere entirely new.
